Tales of Symphonia - Presea

Presea
Some hours
YEP. First time doing anything animeish (just the eyes) since like grade 9. Drawn all in Flash with the brush - hammer too. Will probably do an airbrushed recolour (with a less lazy shadow) some time, but I'm terrible at photoshop.

Laughing Head
A long time - Span of 1 week

It's a little wonky lookin', but that's alright. First attempt at paper mache beyond a balloon, was stressful at times with the 1 week time limit and no clue what I was doing. The project was to make something hybrid, so it was sculpture, sound (looping laugh sound coming from under the head) and performance - part of the concept was the other people in the class to smash it with the hammer, and they did! It got a lot more damaged than that, but I didn't take a picture apparently (Ears beaten off, etc.)

Sculpchah!

Stumps
Some hours

This was actually pretty fun to make! The message is that cutting down trees is wrong (I don't actually think that, but the sculpture does?) I decided against adding rings or lines on the top, because for that to get the way I'd like it would take more time than I had.

Finally, more life drawing!

Some Lady
An hour ish

This is the first life drawing session since my last picture, so yea, not much improvement since. We also had to draw with the lights off, with a light pointed at the model, so our pages were dark and it was hard to see subtleties. Not sure why we had "lighting" during gesture drawing too, since those don't involve shading. I was behind that light, unfortunately. I also think I'll start going to the wednesday lifedrawing sessions at night.

Drawing 120, First Assignment

Up in your Face
Approx. 2.5 hours, pencil, no hand ref.
Our first assignment in drawing 120! "Take a cliche image or phrase and subvert it. USe pencil on a 23x35 sheet." I'm not used to using pencil on such big paper, but I liked that the assignment was open, so I could use my own drawing style. "Those dudes was gettin' all up in my face, ya heard?" So, I put dudes in his face.

Makes sense!

Picasso Self Portrait
Approx. I don't even know, maybe 20 hours?

The task was to replicate a painting by a famous artist, and then include a self portrait of ourself in the replication, and add some element to make it modern (She is reading Twilight... typical). Most people in the class did 2 straight on face shots side by side... but that's not my style. So I chose Woman With a Book by Picasso, and gave myself 6 fingers and other fun disfigurements! It took forever because of this texture technique I decided to make up for some reason, as seen in the closeup.
